Introducing WOLFSKIN by Warren Ellis & Juan Jose Ryp
From the time before history began: from the time when the continents were still connected by land: from the harsh climes at the top of the world, a Northish soldier wrapped in a cape of wolfpelts walks south, into the forests of the High Midlands that are now Europe, to find a village cut in two by travellers from the East. Soon, he too is torn – between duty to the lives he has ruined just by finding them, and duty to the hideous murder-god of the Northish wastes and the berserker drugs that are his sacrament.
“The Wolfskin is a Viking-like warrior; “wolfskin” was in fact one term for the famous “berserker” warrior of Nordic antiquity,” says Ellis, noting that the character is a mashup of barbarian fantasy and weird history. “Like the “warp-spasm” warriors of ancient Ireland, the berserkers were said to transform into animals, in some accounts, like werewolves. What it seems they did, of course, is to take psychoactive mushrooms, which drove them nuts.”
“But never assume the Vikings were just primitive drugsuckers. They were treated as freaks by other cultures because they washed every day. They were literate, and good with languages. I lifted a lot from the period and put it into a fantasy context. An elite Northish soldier, a Wolfskin, walking south into temperate Europe: speaking several languages, having adopted elements of other cultures as his own, and yet somehow excommunicated from his people.”
Known for his work on the recently-completed Frank Miller’s Robocop, Nightmare on Elm Street with Brian Pulido, and his previous Ellis collaboration Angel Stomp Future, Wolfskin artist Juan Jose Ryp is also no stranger to barbarian fantasy comics. “Years ago, I did some work on Conan for a Spanish publisher adapting the Red Nails story,” Ryp notes. “I learned how to draw looking at the spectacular pages of Buscema. That is a great reference – the movement of his warriors is unbeatable, his planning of each page, and the anatomy is great. But in the end, I prefer the technique of Barry Windsor Smith. I have tried to be inspired by his illustrations for this work. Mainly, I am fascinated with his graphic elegance.”
Before history was written in stone and ink, some men wrote it in blood. Wolfskin fuses heroic fantasy in the mode of Conan, the Viking sagas and samurai fiction into a single story of weird history and apocalyptic violence. The full-color 3 issue mini-series begins in April from Avatar.

BRIAN PULIDO’S LADY DEATH: WAR OF THE WINDS
Medieval Europe is threatened by a near-immortal race called the Eldritch. Humanity’s last hope for survival is Lady Death, an outcast who is half-human, half-Eldritch and all attitude. She is part of both clans, but belongs to neither. Months ago, she gave up her warrior ways and has settled in a quiet community. Unknown to her, The Eldritch are poised to attack the human kingdoms on a unprecedented scale. To save the very people who fear her, Medieval Lady Death will be forced into decisions that challenge everything she has ever believed in. This is it, the battle for all the Kingdoms begins here!
“This story is like the ‘Sopranos’ of medieval fiction. There is a big cast of characters and something is always happening to all of them,” says Pulido, adding that Belladonna will also be making a return appearance in this storyline. “This story is about war. Lady Death does her best not to kill, but is that the right approach in war? Is she the only one with that value system? Is that code of conduct a liability? We’re gonna look at that.”
Medieval Lady Death returns in March with an epic new eight issue series. This first issue is also the perfect jumping on point for new readers. Also coming in March is the Medieval Lady Death Sourcebook, a special tome offering up the secrets of the previous twenty issues and much, much more! Everything you ever needed to know about Medieval Lady Death and the magical realms she inhabits are contained in this tome written by Brian Pulido and series editor Barbara Kesel.

STARGATE 2006
A number of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis projects long in the works will be coming to fruition in early 2006. Here’s the rundown on what will be hitting stores soon:
SHIPPING NOW: STARGATE SG-1: POW Vol 1 TPB – The first collected edition of Stargate SG-1 is finally here! Daniel Jackson’s successful decoding of the ancient Stargate hieroglyphics opened the inter-dimensional doorway to thousands of alien worlds. SG-1 leads the USAF effort to establish alliances with other races and find new technologies to be used against the ever present threat of the Goa’uld. Posing as the mythological gods these parasitic creatures subjugate the races of the universe under their self-serving banners, destroying those who would stand against them.
Collecting the three issue Stargate SG-1: P.O.W. series and the original stories Know Your Enemy and First Prime, this trade paperback is the perfect introduction to the Stargate SG-1 universe for fans new and old. Colonel Jack O’Neill, Captain Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, and the Jaffa Warrior Teal’c bring television’s longest running hit sci-fi series to comics in bigger-than-life fashion. Jack has been captured by the Goa’uld and his very memories may be used against the SGC in an all out alien invasion. The SG-1 team must find a way to infiltrate a planet of enemies mobilizing for war to rescue their fallen leader. Crammed with special features and re-mastered for the highest quality this trade paperback is the cornerstone of the Stargate SG-1 comic archive! Available in regular paperback or a special hardcover edition that is limited to 1000 copies.
RESOLICITED FOR MAY 2006: STARGATE SG-1: RA REBORN PREQUEL – The SG-1 team must face their ultimate foe once more! For thousands of years one System Lord ruled the many factions of Goa’uld spread throughout the universe. His rule was unwavering and all who dared oppose him were torn asunder by the fury of his wrath. He was Ra, the sun god, and all-knowing overseer of the entire Goa’uld race. When Jack O’Neill and Daniel Jackson first traveled through the Stargate it was their unexpected resourcefulness that ultimately led to the downfall of this most prolific of despots. Transporting a Naquadah enhanced nuclear warhead into his throne room the destruction of the self appointed lord of the god was witnessed by the entire population of Abydos. Or was it…? As Daniel Jackson recounts the story of the first Stargate mission, a familiar presence reappears on Abydonian soil. Has the most feared Goa’uld of all time been reborn from the ashes to terrorize the universe again?
