New This Week ? STITCHED #7 by Garth Ennis and Mike Wolfer

Garth Ennis reveals why you should “Fear the Stitched,” as the first story arc in his gut-wrenching tale of modern horror comes to an explosive climax! The small group of Coalition soldiers has made their fateful decision. Rather than escape with their lives to face a lifetime of nightmares, they have chosen to take out their horrific hunters and the entire operation . . . And if necessary, they’ll fight to the death! But even if every last ‘Stitched’ is destroyed, how can they prevail against the forces which resurrected their dead flesh?

Written originally by Garth Ennis as a film treatment, this story is a true labor of love, as Ennis directed his first ever film which kicks off the comic series. How does the first story arc end? Visit your local comic shop today to find out!

Previews Featured Item of the Month: Bleeding Cool Magazine #1

Avatar Press proudly announces the upcoming debut of Bleeding Cool Magazine?s first full-length issue, hitting store shelves worldwide in October. A Diamond Featured Item solicited in the August Previews catalog, Bleeding Cool promises to bring back in-depth, printed comics reporting to the comic shop, right where it belongs? and where it?s been sorely missed!

Bleeding Cool Magazine debuted earlier this year in a special #0 sampler edition, a 40-page title with an introductory price of $1.50 retail. The #0 issue was an overwhelming success, topping the charts as Diamond Comic Distributors? best-selling magazine to comic shops.

Beginning in October, Bleeding Cool Magazine #1 will feature its ongoing full-length format, measuring over 100 pages in length, with huge features covering the top comic companies and creators! Still retaining its comic book dimensions (making it perfect to fit alongside your favorite comics on racks), Bleeding Cool will appear on a bi-monthly schedule, retailing for an affordable $4.99.

  • BLEEDING COOL MAGAZINE #1??? ($4.99, Item Code: AUG120887)

In addition to its coverage of Dark Horse IDW, Image, Top Cow, Boom, Valiant, Avatar, Marvel, DC, Aspen and more, Bleeding Cool Magazine #1 includes two major features that we are exceedingly proud to publish! First, we are presenting a tell-all interview with legendary writer Alan Moore (of Watchmen fame, and also our very own Stoker Award-winning Neonomicon). Also, website founder Rich Johnston will present his Forbes-style “Top 100 Most Powerful People in Comics” countdown, guaranteed to reveal some closely-guarded industry secrets and stir up some exciting discussion!

Speaking of Rich Johnston, he would like to share some thoughts on the magazine:

There’s been a gap on your shelf, on your counter, in your heart, and in your wallet since Wizard Magazine went away. There’s something about the permanence of print that digital cannot touch. Websites burn through content like it’s going out of fashion, but print hangs around, lingers, and reminds you that it’s there. Print matters. And print sells!

Comic shops have a special incentive to support the ongoing magazine launch:

  • Retailers who order 20 or more copies of Bleeding Cool Magazine #1 will be promoted as a “Bleeding Cool Store” on www.bleedingcool.com!

That?s right! Those retailers that support Bleeding Cool Magazine #1 will receive special coverage on the world?s #1 most influential comic blog. Worldwide coverage for your store, as only Bleeding Cool can deliver!

Join Avatar Press as we embark on this exciting new publishing venture. If you?re an Avatar fan, or a fan of comics in general, be sure to tell your local comic book shop to place a pre-order for you! And if you?re a retailer, we thank you so much in advance for your support of Bleeding Cool Magazine!

Avatar Press to Launch Ongoing NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Comic Series on Halloween

This year, October 31st will fall on a New Comic Wednesday. That?s right ? Halloween is going to fall on our industry?s favorite day of the week. What better day of the year to launch a new zombie comic book series?

Night of the Living Dead is the ?granddaddy? of the zombie genre, the originator of the entire undead craze. On this upcoming Halloween, Avatar Press will finally give the Night of the Living Dead franchise the ongoing, monthly comic book series it deserves with the new NOTLD: Aftermath series, written by David Hine (Civil War: X-Men, The Darkness).

Like the successful ?Crossed C-Day? event we organized earlier this year, we are hoping that retailers across the USA, Canada, and the UK will join us in celebrating the new series and expand readership by having lots of fun in their stores with zombie fans and cosplayers. We?re calling the event ?Day of the Undead,? and we?d love to see innovative retailers celebrate with organized zombie walks, undead costume contests, ghoul trivia challenges, and other zombie-themed events!

Zombies are all the rage right now. We?d love it if Aftermath and the ?Day of the Undead? event can provide stores everywhere with a steady stream of monthly revenue moving forward from Halloween on.

Here are some ways the promotion will work:

  • In the August Previews catalog, we have listed a number of $3.99-priced variant editions to Night of the Living Dead: Aftermath (Regular AUG120833, Wraparound AUG120834, and Gore AUG120835). We are encouraging retailers to stock up and give these comics a prominent place on store shelves.
  • At an AWESOME value price, we have listed a $2.99-priced graphic novel called NOTLD: Day of the Undead (AUG120838), which contains 64 pages of our best NOTLD tales from the past. This is a great bargain for customers ? especially on Halloween!
  • We are making a Retailer Promo Kit (AUG120839) available to retailers. If a retailer chooses to acquire this kit, they will have everything they need to throw a zombie event in their store, including:

o???? Twenty-five (25) NOTLD temporary tattoos
o???? Twenty-five (25) NOTLD zombie icon buttons
o???? Twenty-five (25) NOTLD stickers
o???? Three (3) NOTLD oversized posters
o???? One (1) NOTLD squishy brain
o???? One (1) NOTLD Volume 3 Trade Paperback ($19.99 retail)
o???? One (1) special retailer-only Classic Movie Poster Edition of the NOTLD: Day of the Undead graphic novel

  • Ken Meyer Jr. will be individually painting every one of the Aftermath #1 Original Painted Art Cover Editions (AUG120837), providing a one-of-a-kind item for the most discerning zombie fans. It?s painted and it?s gorgeous, perfect for the high-end collector!? Check out an example below:

Avatar Press is making a promise to zombie horror fans: OUR monthly comic series will deliver zombie action and gore in every issue, guaranteed. Horror fans with have something to celebrate with Night of the Living Dead: Aftermath. And retailers will have something to celebrate, too: a quality horror comic that will have a strong launch and a dedicated following for months (and years) to come.

We hope fans and retailers join us in making the Halloween ?Day of the Undead? event into a true zombie extravaganza!
