Disenchanted Web Series To Launch Monday 10/28

Simon Spurrier’s new webcomic, Disenchanted, is set to premiere on Monday 10/28/13 with the first online installment at www.disenchantedcomic.com. ?New chapters of the comic will be posted every Monday following giving readers a regular 12-page free weekly look into the world of the modern fairy folk. ?But before you go thinking this might be some in-vogue mash up of cutesy tales…remember – this is from Avatar Press. ?Disenchanted is by far the hardest and most cynical look at what happened to all the magical races as the world forgot about them. ?Many of humanity’s worst traits seem to have been instilled in these little people proving that even the tiniest being is capable of heinous purpose.

So you might ask yourself…is this for me? ?Well we asked Spurrier to tell us just that. ?Being known for his work on the Crossed: Wish You Were Here webseries, who exactly is Disenchanted aimed at?

SPURRIER: ?”Who?s it for? Anyone who loves a hint of fantasy in a really compelling story, but wishes it wasn?t always so fucking twee. Anyone who wants to see reality at a different scale. Anyone who always suspected there were whole worlds ticking away beneath their feet, beneath their notice, but never dared look. Disenchanted Tales From the Angry Wee People

sispurrierSimon Spurrier is feeling a bit…disenchanted. ?This well known creative author has written comics from Marvel, Boom, and of course Avatar covering a wide range of characters and topics. ?From crazed bloodthirsty infested in Crossed to a gunslinging gorilla in Six Gun Gorilla, he’s made his mark. ?But something small and angry and ticked off was still inside waiting to get out.

That’s where Disenchanted comes in.

Fans will be officially introduced to the property with the Disenchanted Debut which was solicited as part of the Halloween Comic Fest parties being thrown around the globe on October 30th at local retailers. ?People at the New York Comic Con had a sneak peek at the first chapter of the story which will be told weekly as a free webcomic at www.disenchantedcomic.com every Monday in the style of www.crossedcomic.com.

DisenchantedDebut_coverAccording to Spurrier, Disenchanted will cover all the complications of modern life but inflicted upon the wee folk – the fairy kingdoms that we forgot about and that festered into something nasty. ?When asked about publishing an Avatar book about pixies, he said – “Let?s be clear: faeries are kinda crap these days. They?ve gone through the cultural ringer: spat onto the sterilised shelves of toystores in a kaleidoscope of pink tutus, glittery wands, and rosy cheeks. That?s a pity. Because faeries, like all dimly-remembered magics, like all the folkloric little monsters we used to believe in, like all the glamours they used to spin to avoid our attention, are related to a whole host of ancient ideas far more interesting than glitter. ?Crime. Law. Ethnic hatred. Drugs. Radicalisation. Deviancy. Love. Family ties. Disenchanted takes every grim complication of the modern world ? every urban obstacle ? and filters them through a haze of dark magic and increasingly threadbare tradition.”

What is clear about the upcoming web series is that it is refreshingly original, not at all what you might think about in terms of fairy tales, and quite a bit edgier than you might expect. ?Like many fans who enjoy Spurrier’s unique approach to telling stories, we are looking forward to seeing this nasty look into the seedy underbelly of the mythical little people. ?Something tells us that between the needles and shivs, we’re going to find a world of enthralling characters and stories that let Simon Spurrier release a wealth of imagination into.

Crossed39redcrossedSimon Spurrier is known for creating unique characters in the Crossed universe. ?But his latest arc takes it one step further by introducing us to the biker and the beatnik in what turned out to be possibly the best 70s grindhouse tribute we’ve ever seen. ?In “American Quitters” we meet two unlikely riding companions and follow them on their trip to the end. ?While the characters couldn’t be me different, they end up sharing the road on what played out as a modern horror masterpiece.

Simon Spurrier’s Disenchanted Debut At NYCC

sispurrierFan favorite writer, Simon Spurrier crosses the pond to meet fans at New York Comic Con and give folks a peek at his new webcomic, Disenchanted. ?On Halloween, comic fans everywhere will be able to pick up a copy of Disenchanted Debut, part of the Halloween Comic Fest activities at local comic shops just in time for the launch of the new original web series. ?The Disenchanted webcomic will be in the Freakangels and Crossed: Wish You Were Here format, giving away pages and pages of content for free every week.
