A Letter to Stargate fans from Stargate: POW writer James Anthony Kuhoric

The first full issue Stargate SG-1 comic book is on sale now! Wow -- it feels really good to say that. Most of you don't know me, but I thought this was a perfect time to get acquainted. I am the lucky writer who landed the job of a lifetime, penning the adventures of everyone's favorite Stargate traveling SG unit for Avatar's Pulsar Press imprint. Now that the first issue is available, I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about the book, get your feelings on it, give a little behind the scenes info, and let you know what to expect with the next issue and our extensive upcoming plans.

First things first -- Stargate SG-1: Prisoner of War (P.O.W.) #1. This series has two main purposes -- to give you a taste of the incredible artwork, storytelling, and quality you can expect in every issue and to introduce the general comic book world to SG-1. We designed this first three-issue story to essentially be an episode of the series on paper. In your hands you have the first ten to fifteen minutes (basically the introduction and first commercial break) of the episode. The action is meant to take you to the immediate crux of the series -- Jack O'Neill has gone through the Stargate after Skaara and the threat of the Goa'uld device the golden Serpent Guard attached to the gate.

Our second issue (which will be on sale in about twenty days) gives our readers a fantastic overview of the Stargate program's history and adventures to this point. It is meant to establish the background and act as an introduction to the program for the casual fan. I really think you will enjoy it -- we wrap the details of the Stargate movie into SG-1 continuity (with a few surprises -- I can't give away all the fun). We consider this issue to be the episode reference for our first comic book run. Believe me, if issue #1 seemed a little sparse on dialogue to you, this issue will more than make up for it.

The third issue is an action bonanza. I'll tell you a little more about it after issue #2 is on the racks.

Several future series are already in the works including ones that focus on the Reetou, new Goa'uld System Lords, and even the Replicators. The next new Stargate SG-1 story is called Know Your Enemy and will appear in the 2004 Convention Special (you can find it solicited in the March Previews on sale now at your local comic shop). This summer we will launch a new three issue series called Stargate SG-1: Fall of Rome.

Okay...that's a lot of info. Now I want to know what you thought of the first full issue -- everything... good and bad. We're not afraid of hearing things you didn't like, after all, if you don't hear the good and the bad you can't make the books better. Please feel free to visit us at the Avatar Press website and check out the Stargate pages. Let us know what you thought and whether or not you could find the books at your local comic shop.

I hope you enjoyed the first issue and that you come back to finish out the series with us. We really think you'll be happy with the end result! I'll be back in a few weeks to talk again about issue #2, until then, keep the faith!

--James Anthony Kuhoric

One last thing -- I'd like to publicly thank Darren for his help as the continuity editor on our series. No one knows SG-1 like you pal!
