Avatar Press is a comic book publisher which has carved a niche for itself as a company that pushes the boundaries between mainstream and independent with titles such as Alan Moore's The Courtyard and Magic Words, Warren Ellis' Strange Killings and Scars, Garth Ennis and John McCrea's irreverent private eye cult classic Dicks, Joe R. Lansdale and Tim Truman's Dead Folks, David Quinn and Tim Vigil's 777: The Wrath, company owned characters such as Pandora and The Ravening, licensed hits such as Frank Miller's Robocop and Stargate SG1, and long-running anthology title Threshold, among numerous other titles -- including comics for mature readers, and other audiences. A company that has established itself as one of the cornerstones of the American indy comic book scene over the past six years, Avatar has published over 350 comic books since 1997.

New Comics Day

It's Wednesday afternoon and that means many are getting ready to head out to a comic shop near you to check out what's been released for the week -- comics are shipped to comic shops worldwide on a weekly basis and most retailers in the U.S. have the latest issues available on Wednesday.

A few things from Avatar to keep in mind as you head out to your retailer this week...  here's this week's Avatar releases of course, and your retailer should have last week's and the week before's Avatar releases as well.  If he doesn't, ask him if he can get them back in stock -- he should have many of these items available to him.  While you're there, you might ask him if you can pre-order Avatar Press releases for May 2003, as that ordering deadline is imminent as well.

Gallery: Jungle Fantasy #3 Ivory cover by Ron Adrian

Speaking of Jungle Fantasy (as we were earlier with today's release of issue #2), here's a look at a cover from the next issue featuring new Jungle Girl character Ivory, drawn by regular Avatar contributor Ron Adrian, and featuring the lush hues of Nimbus Studios.

Ivory makes her debut in today's release of #2, drawn by Adrian in a story written by Doug Miers.

Reminder -- Previews Orders Due March 15

The official due date for ordering from the current issue of the Previews catalog is Saturday, March 15.  Your local retailer may have a different deadline for orders, so check in with your store if you're not sure about your local due date.  Not sure what this Previews stuff is all about?  We talked a bit here about Previews and the importance of pre-ordering or otherwise letting your retailer know what independent comics you want to read.

There's a variety of information and artwork on the site covering the Avatar Press comics that are available for pre-order in March.  The March Previews supplement is the starting point for finding out more about what you can pre-order for the month.
