Avatar Press is a comic book publisher which has carved a niche for itself as a company that pushes the boundaries between mainstream and independent with titles such as Alan Moore's The Courtyard and Magic Words, Warren Ellis' Strange Killings and Scars, Garth Ennis and John McCrea's irreverent private eye cult classic Dicks, Joe R. Lansdale and Tim Truman's Dead Folks, David Quinn and Tim Vigil's 777: The Wrath, company owned characters such as Pandora and The Ravening, licensed hits such as Frank Miller's Robocop and Stargate SG1, and long-running anthology title Threshold, among numerous other titles -- including comics for mature readers, and other audiences. A company that has established itself as one of the cornerstones of the American indy comic book scene over the past six years, Avatar has published over 350 comic books since 1997.

Gallery: Jungle Fantasy #3 by Carrie Hall

Here's another cover from the upcoming Jungle Fantasy #3, this one a spectacular piece by a painter most Avatar readers are familiar with, Carrie Hall.

A self-taught artist who has painted several covers for Avatar in recent years, Hall's work shows a number of influences including Boris, Julie Bell, Dorian Cleavenger, and perhaps most of all, famed Spanish fantasist Luis Royo.  Royo's brand of shimmering, super-real settings and characters and the sensuality of those characters is particularly noticable in Hall's painting.

Like many comics artists, Hall got her professional start in the gaming field, on projects such as Forged in Magic and Guild of Blades.  Her Avatar cover paintings were her first work in the comics field, and she has done covers for titles such as Jungle Fantasy, Avengelyne, and Glory at Avatar since 2000.

We'll gather up some more of Hall's Avatar cover work for a gallery and get a profile section for her here up at the site shortly.
