Avatar Press is a comic book publisher which has carved a niche for itself as a company that pushes the boundaries between mainstream and independent with titles such as Alan Moore's The Courtyard and Magic Words, Warren Ellis' Strange Killings and Scars, Garth Ennis and John McCrea's irreverent private eye cult classic Dicks, Joe R. Lansdale and Tim Truman's Dead Folks, David Quinn and Tim Vigil's 777: The Wrath, company owned characters such as Pandora and The Ravening, licensed hits such as Frank Miller's Robocop and Stargate SG1, and long-running anthology title Threshold, among numerous other titles -- including comics for mature readers, and other audiences. A company that has established itself as one of the cornerstones of the American indy comic book scene over the past six years, Avatar has published over 350 comic books since 1997.

Avatar Press June 2003 Solicited Releases

Time once again to take an advance look at what Avatar's got in store in the months ahead so you can let your local comic shop know that you want these upcoming items.  Here's the complete cover graphics and solicitation info for our June 2003 releases.

As you've come to expect from one of the leading independent publishers in comics, June is another excellent month from Avatar Press:  The master of comic book writing shares his insights in Alan Moore's Writing for Comics, Warren Ellis and Mike Wolfer return with another saga of rogue SAS operative and combat magician William Gravel in Strange Killings: Strong Medicine, Demonslayer: Lords of Night begins, Hellina: Seduction is previewed, and much more.

We've taken a look at several of these projects in brief over the past couple of weeks.  Here's a roundup of where you can find information beyond what's in the June section:

Which brings us to Alan Moore's Writing for Comics.  We'll be getting a section up for this major release shortly.  In the meantime, check out what Warren Ellis had to say about this important work, which originally appeared in an obscure British fanzine and is collected in this volume (and with a new, additional essay from Moore) for the first time:

"Alan Moore was one of the first comics authors to write extensively and intelligently about the underpinnings of the craft.  I know people who've been waiting fifteen years to see this reprinted.  It goes right next to Eisner and McCloud on the smart reader's shelf." -- Warren Ellis
